Bridges of Ross Trail Project Sees Major Investment
The walking trail at the Bridges of Ross is a step closer as Clare County Council has been awarded funding of €108,000 in the latest measures of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
The project aims to enhance the visitor experience through the extension of the trail, by improving accessibility and ensuring the area remains a well-maintained, attractive and sustainable tourism and recreational amenity. Led by the West Clare MD in partnership with the local community group Loop Head Together, the works to be undertaken will be sensitive to the environment to ensure the natural beauty of the site is preserved.
Director of Services of Transportation, Climate Action, Recreation, Environmental & Emergency Services at Clare County Council, Dr Carmel Kirby, said, “We are looking forward to delivering an upgraded trail to locals and tourists alike at the Bridges of Ross. This funding in the latest measures of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme ensures we can deliver the best quality work possible and provide a trail that promotes the beautiful outdoor areas available in Ireland, particularly here in Clare.”
The funding comes as part of Measure 2 and 3 of the ORIS, in which an addition of €16.5 million has been allocated to deliver 63 projects nationwide to improve, upgrade and create new recreational facilities across the country. Among the 63 projects are walking trails, mountain access projects, and outdoor water-based amenities, with up to €500,000 being allocated to each project.
Minister for Social Protection and Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, said, “I am delighted to make this significant funding announcement today for outdoor recreational facilities. This investment will further enhance these spaces which not only act as recreational and social spaces for our communities but also add greatly to our tourism sector.”
